Method:
- Touch the index finger of one hand to the middle finger of the other hand.
- Touch the index finger of the second hand to the middle finger of the first hand.
- Touch the ring finger of the first hand to the little finger of the second hand, and the ring finger of the second hand to the little finger of the first hand.
- Keep both thumbs separate.
- Keep the palms facing downward.
Significance:
This mudra combines the air element of one hand with the space element of the other, and the earth element of one hand with the water element of the other. The fire element remains balanced. Surabhi, meaning “the cow” or “Kamadhenu cow,” is also known as Dhenu Mudra. When the hands are placed downward, the form resembles the udder of a cow, which symbolizes purity.
Duration: 15 minutes, three times a day.
Benefits:
- Purity of Mind: It purifies and elevates the mind.
- Digestive Health: It helps in curing all stomach-related ailments.
- Elemental Balance: Combining the water and earth elements creates universal energy, while the air and space elements stabilize the cosmic cycle and navel chakra, preventing digestive issues and strengthening the digestive system.
- Urinary Health: It helps in curing urinary problems.
- Overall Health: Promotes overall health and strength.
- Kundalini Activation: Awakens the Kundalini energy.
- Balancing Doshas: This is the only mudra that easily balances Vata, Pitta, and Kapha doshas. It is considered a great mudra by Acharya Keshav Dev Ji, who believes it is the best for balancing these doshas and preventing disease.
- Spiritual Importance: It has significant importance in spirituality. Even advanced yogis and sages find it necessary. It should be practiced before and after chanting the Gayatri mantra to enhance spiritual progress.
Special Notes:
- When the thumb of one hand is placed at the base of a specific finger on the same hand, that element increases rapidly. For example:
- Placing the thumb at the base of the index finger increases the air element (Vayu Surabhi Mudra).
- Placing the thumb at the base of the middle finger increases the space element (Shunya Surabhi Mudra).
- Placing the thumb at the base of the ring finger increases the earth element (Prithvi Surabhi Mudra).
- Placing the thumb at the base of the little finger increases the water element (Jal Surabhi Mudra).
- Simple Practice:
- To form this mudra, use each hand separately. Keep the thumbs apart, and touch the index and middle fingers of both hands together, as well as the ring and little fingers together.
- Practice Timing:
- It is challenging to practice this mudra all the time; thus, it should be done only during spiritual practice.
